Diabetes Problem Basic and its Type

In this modernizing world where the technology has spread its wings in every dimension, there is a growing scope research and development in the zone of human health. While the world is battling with various health disorders, diabetes is one of the most widespread chronic diseases in the world which has proliferated at a very electric rate. According to the statistical data, India has the highest number of diabetic patients in the world.

What is Diabetes?

It is a well-known fact that glucose is the main source of energy for the body and it is generally provided to the body by the food the individual eats. A hormone which is produced by pancreas called “insulin” converts glucose into the form so that it is absorbed by the cells of the body. Diabetes is a condition in which the body is unable to produce enough insulin to meet the demands of the body. When insulin is not enough to convert glucose into the absorbable form, glucose is retained in the blood and causes health problems.

Types of Diabetes

Diabetes has been classified into three major types which include type-1 diabetes, type-2 diabetes ,and gestational diabetes. More than 90{e7dc6fb6a411593559bed1d9924d8030d60fc3f24c9293f7c98c249df74a0c2f} of diabetic patients suffer from type-2 diabetes. Let’s know a little more about these types in detail.

  • Type-1 diabetes: – If a person suffers from type-1 diabetes, his/her body is unable to produce insulin. The immune system of the individual attacks its own cells which produce insulin and this it is an auto-immune disorder. Most of the people suffering from type-1 diabetes are diagnosed with this disease in their childhood or early adulthood. The people suffering from this disease are administered insulin in the form of injections.
  • Type-2 diabetes: – This type of diabetes occurs when the individual’s body is unable to produce enough insulin so as to convert glucose into an absorbable form. It is generally called insulin-resistance. Initially the pancreas produces more insulin but eventually, the glucose starts building up in the blood and raises blood glucose levels and ultimately can cause many health disorders. One can develop this type of diabetes at any age however, it commonly occurs in middle-aged and older people.
  • Gestational diabetes: – This is one of the least common types of diabetes which is temporary and occurs only during pregnancy. Only 3{e7dc6fb6a411593559bed1d9924d8030d60fc3f24c9293f7c98c249df74a0c2f} people in the world suffer from this disease and it eventually gets cured after the baby is born but the women who suffered from this disease during pregnancy are at the higher risk of developing type-2 diabetes in their life.

A question might arise now that what causes diabetes. In layman’s language, it can be said that wrong eating habits and an unhealthy lifestyle are the two preeminent reasons for the spread of this disease. Presence of high quantity of fats and carbohydrates in food, no or very less physical work, no exercise and sitting regularly for 6-8 hours has increased risks of falling prey to diabetes.

This disease is not yet preventable but lifestyle changes can do a lot to keep the blood glucose levels close to normal range as possible.
