“Dhing Express” Hima Das made every Indian proud of her achievements as a sprint runner in 2018. She ruled the track and field events in national and international level. After PT Usha she is the sensation on athletic track and won laurels for India. The people of India not spared a word of praise on her.
2018 was her year. In July 2018 she won Gold in international track and field event in U-20 category. At Tempere Finland she was the first Indian to win the Gold in International event clocking 51.46 seconds in 400 m race. In Asian Games in 2018 she qualified for individual and relay event in 400 m category. Hima improved her performance in 400 m by winning silver in Asian Games. She clocked 50.79 seconds and is a national record. She was a member of 400m relay team in mixed and women event which won gold for country. Earlier in commonwealth games she qualified but secured sixth and seventh positions is 400m individual and relay events. Her super performance in international events won her endorsements from Adidas the famous sports goods manufacturer in the world. She is training hard for forthcoming Olympics at present.
The youngest of five siblings Hima wanted to play football. Later she found no scope in football. Hima switched to sprinting on advice from her teacher. She comes from a humble family, her parents are farmers. The sprint queen ran in the natural style on the borders of rice fields of Assam and achieved the glory for her and the nation. Government of India conferred on her the Arjuna Award, the highest honor given to a sports person. She is brand ambassador of her native state of Assam. She is the first ever youth ambassador appointed by UNISEF-India. At The young age of eighteen this queen of track and field will bring many more laurel to the nation. She has established herself in the heart of young Indians as the guiding light of the future.
