Sweden Waste Management

Sweden Waste Management

Sweden Waste Management

In recent years, Sweden has struck the headlines of the newspaper by exploring incredible ideas which the other developed nations cherish. The waste management plan is one of the finest concepts among those incredible ideas. This Scandinavian country is considered one of the global powerhouses in sustainable waste management. The management body of the government has been working tirelessly to improve energy efficiency. They are constantly working to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions. They also aware the public to manage their daily wastage stuff. Sweden has been developing the methods of repurposing or reusing the waste.

Increase recycling

The people of Sweden are more aware of waste than the other nations. Over the past ten years, the people of this country have been adopting the recycling of the waste as their daily routine. Before disposal, the residents collects and sort the recyclable materials and food scraps. This method reduces the effort which is required to sort the huge volumes of waste at the recycling centres. Apart from this, the Swedish government has created the legislation to promote the recycling of waste among its people. The legislation refers that the recycling centres must be within 1000 feet of residential areas. This initiative of the government encourages the citizens to dispose of their waste properly.

Repurpose of the materials

The people of this Scandinavian country are far more conscious of the uses of the materials than the other developed country. They repurpose or reuse the material before disposing of them. Cooperation of the citizens with the government eases the way of management of waste in the country. According to the recent survey, the people of Sweden reduce using the new products which are created from pure or fresh materials as they believe in using the repurposed products. In turn, it is found that the country preserves most of its resources.

Investment in waste to energy

The Swedish government has taken the big initiative of the waste-to-energy facility by burning the waste. There are few benefits of this waste-to-energy facilities. It is observed that over fifty per cent of the waste in Sweden is burnt to acquire the waste to energy facility. The energy generated through this facilities heats millions of home across the country during the winter months. This heating process is called the “district heating”. The heating process has been improving the air quality for the last twenty years.

There is another benefit of waste –to- energy facility is that the ash and the other byproducts produced by burning can be used for the materials of the road construction. In addition, Sweden cannot produce enough waste to burn its waste to energy plants. The country imports waste from the other neighbour countries to keep the facility going. One of the most interesting facts about the waste to energy facility is that the companies enjoy the tax incentives from the government. To promote fueling the waste for energy, the government has started this initiative since 1990. Truly, it encourages the company to extend their helping hand towards this initiative of the government.

Influence of the waste-to-energy

There is the huge impact of the waste to energy on the environment. Though, the management body of the government manages highly the entire procedure of the waste-to-energy method. The facility of the waste-to-energy is clean because most of the time, the harmful byproducts are filtered before releasing into the environment. In spite of possessing much protection for the environment, the facility still releases the carbon-di-oxide as their primary outputs. As per the report released recently, that the waste-to-energy produce 20{e7dc6fb6a411593559bed1d9924d8030d60fc3f24c9293f7c98c249df74a0c2f} more carbon-di-oxide comparing to the coal plants. The disadvantage of this waste-to-energy facility is that it releases carbon-di-oxide at a faster rate than it would naturally. Comparing to the coal plants, the waste-to-energy emits more carbon to the environment. Though the Swedish government consistently trying hard to protect the environment from affecting with carbon- dioxide produced from the waste-to-energy process. Another inconvenient of this process is the destruction and the removal of the finite materials from the environment.

Unlike the other government, the Swedish government is trying to achieve another method of removing the carbon-di-oxide produced by the waste-to-energy process. It is found that the government is dependent on the waste-to-energy process which leads more emittance of the carbon. It is the right time for the Swedish government to reevaluate the waste-to-energy process.
