Train 18 Will Transform Indian Railway Forever

Indian railways are one of the world’s complex and largest network. It is the backbone of the country, expending across all the city through north to south and west to east. India does not have any high-speed train according to International standards. But nowadays some advance train is coming to fulfill the arising requirement of quick travel. Indian railway initiative these two high-speed train that has word class facility. One is Train 18 and another one in Train 20. People would be happy to travel in those latest additions to the railway network.

According to the part of railway plan to increase the speed of all long-distance passenger train reaching the target of the 25kmph increase in speed by 2022, it has decided to replace Shatabdi Express train with the semi high-speed train ‘Train 18’. This train will be used for inter-city travel and it built in Make India initiative at the Integral coach factory in Mumbai. This is the first world-class and self-drive train in India which reduce the journey time and also enhance passenger’s experience.

According to the report by IANS, the Indian railway had been started testing from last September and Train 18 was rolled out on Monday 29th oct 2018 will eventually replace Shatabdi Express for inter-city travel. The build cost of 16 coach trainset is 100 crore per rake.

Features & Facilities:

  • The swanky 16 coaches train will cut 15percent the journey time compare to the 30-year-old Shatabdi Express. It able to achieve a speed of 160km per hour.
  • Train 18 is a flagship train set, the first prototype which will be modified for following products based on the feedback from Research Designs and Standards Organisation.
  • Train 18 has an aerodynamic (nose cone) driver’s cabin at both ends.
  • Just like as metro, Train 18 not required an engine to run on tracks because it has self-propel on electric traction.
  • Train 18 have steel coaches with multiple facilities like the LED TV screen, diffused LED lighting system, GPS and onboard Wi-Fi infotainment.
  • European-style seats, disabled-friendly wheelchair parking spaces. All air-condition chair car exclusive and non-exclusive coaches are available. Passengers will be able to rotate the seats in the direction of the train movement in the exclusive coaches. Like as global train there is the continuous window for better view and automatic doors with slide footstep which will only open when the train reaches in the platform.
  • Even the train toilets would be a newer type with zero discharge vacuum based bio-toilets and divvying-friendly toilets.

Train 20 (To Be Expected on 2020):

After successfully rolling out Train 18, Indian railways will turn its focus to roll out on Train 20 by 2020. Train 20 in another high-speed train new generation sleeper class train which will replace Rajdhani Express on the network. Train 20 has the same features like Train 18 apart from this it will have some key facility like-

  • Train 20 will have an aluminium body generally Indian railway use steel to make the body of the coach.
  • The fully air-conditioned train, self-propelled and engine less, has the potential of becoming the country’s fastest train.
  • Train 20 will capable to attend a maximum speed 160kmph.
  • It will have fitted CCTV cameras and passengers information system beside the GPS.
  • It will offer new generation sleeper cars coaches.

The government plans to replace old trains with new hi-tech trains. So both these trains are being manufactured at half the import cost under the government’s ‘Make in India’ programme. Official reports said a coach of Train 18 and Train 20 will cost around Rs 2.5 crore and Rs 5.5 crore, respectively.
